Extra Credit Opportunities
Students must have all other assignments turned in for extra credit to be accepted.
Extra Credit Reading
Each nine weeks term you may earn a maximum of 45 extra credit points by reading a book, either fiction or non-fiction,
about one of the topics we study during that semester. The books must be from Accelerated Reader (AR) lists available
through the Destiny Card Catalog in the Media Center. Each book has been assigned a point value in the Accelerated Reader program. The Extra Credit point value for each book is three(3) times its AR value up to 45 points. In order to earn extra
credit, you must answer the following questions about the book in paragraph form. The due date for the extra credit report
will be announced each term.
Paragraph I: Write a summary of the book. If the book is fiction or biographical, tell the story and include
important turning points in the story or the historical figure's life.
Paragraph II: Place the story in historical context--tell me how this story relates to the period of history in
which it is taking place.
If you have any questions about the extra credit program or about whether a book you select is appropriate, please
check with Mrs. Gioia or Ms. McCormack.
